ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) — Allen County's homicide rate is down from 2018 after the coroner identified the final homicide victim of 2019.
On Dec. 31, the Allen County Coroner identified the 29th and final homicide victim in the county for 2019 as a 27-year-old man, Larry M. Briggs. Briggs was fatally shot on Dec. 27 in the 3000 block of Euclid Avenue.
The 29 reported homicides for Allen County in 2019 are down compared to 2018, which ended at 45.
Among the 2019 homicides, 19 were shootings, 9 were stabbings, and one was blunt force trauma.
One of the 19 shootings was a police action shooting. The Allen County Prosecutor’s Office said FWPD Officer Hawthrone, who fatally shot a 26-year-old following a police chase in May, was justified in using force and no charges were filed against him.
