Fort Wayne, Ind. (FORT WAYNE'S NBC) - Fort Wayne homicide detectives made an arrest in the fatal stabbing of a woman Wednesday morning.
Police arrested 24-year-old Kennishewa Whitley in the death of 49-year-old Stacy Jennings.
We confirmed through family members that Whitley is Jennings' daughter.
It was three o'clock in the morning Wednesday when officers were called to the Villages of Hanna apartment complex, not far from the old city police headquarters on Creighton Avenue.
At the time they didn't know what the problem was.
But once they arrived, inside a building, they found 39-year old Stacy Jennings, and it was pretty clear she'd been stabbed.
Medics rushed to the scene, but she didn't make it.
Kennishewa Whitley had placed the emergency call to police and was still in the apartment when they got there.
"The female that was in the apartment was taken back to the station, as a person of interest, for interview," said Sgt. Sofia Rosales-Scatena, with FWPD.
That interview produced what detectives needed to support an arrest.
No details have yet been provided on what might have prompted the stabbing, officers saying only that it was a domestic situation.
The Allen County coroner's office released results of an autopsy Wednesday, revealing that Jennings died of multiple stab wounds.
She is the 25th homicide victim in Allen County in 2019.
There were 46 homicides in the county in all of 2018.
