Fire reported at Tyson Foods-Mexican Original in Portland

Portland, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – Dispatchers confirm with Fort Wayne’s NBC News that firefighters responded to a fire at Tyson Foods-Mexican Original in Portland Friday evening.

The plant is located at 1355 West Tyson Road.

Mayor Randy Geesaman says there is minimal damage contained to one silo.  He says the plant produces tortilla chips and shells.  The mayor credits firefighters for their efforts in containing the fire to the northeast part of the building.  He says nobody was hurt, and right now they’re going over the damage to try and determine when they can restart production.

Reporter Ray Cooney with the Commercial Review was on the scene.  He reported seeing smoke and flames coming from the roof of the plant.  He says emergency workers told him one of the fryers caught fire. The following video is courtesy of the Commercial Review:
