FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) — The Allen County Coroner’s Office says the human remains have been recovered from the scene in northeast Allen County.
Fort Wayne’s NBC previously reported that someone discovered what officials believe to be human remains in the 1900 block of Doehrman Road in Woodburn. They were found about 150 feet off of Doehrman Road in a wooded area.
Based on the condition of the skeletal remains, officials say they appear to have been there for at least six months.
On Tuesday, the University of Indianapolis’ Anthropology Department arrived to the scene and recovered the remains.
Michael Burris of the Allen County Coroner’s Office told Fort Wayne’s NBC that they have ruled out the idea that the body came from the river.
Officials said a high percentage of the bones were recovered in the search area. The remains will be transported to the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center for further examination. The remains will then be sent to UIndy’s Anthropology Department for additional examination and potential DNA Testing.
The scene at Doehrman Road has since been cleared.
