ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) — Allen County officials are investigating after human remains were found in the northeast part of Allen County on Sunday.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office told Fort Wayne’s NBC that someone discovered what officials believe to be human remains in the 1900 block of Doehrman Road in Woodburn. They were found about 150 feet off of Doehrman Road in a wooded area.
Based on the condition of the skeletal remains, officials say they appear to have been there for at least six months. No additional information on the remains is available.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Office is protecting the scene until the University of Indianapolis’ Department of Anthropology arrives to take over the investigation, officials say.
The department will then handle the rest of the investigation, including documenting and removing the remains.
Speculation in the community has run rampant suggesting that the remains are from missing man Kevin Nguyen, who disappeared from Fort Wayne last December. Investigators at the coroner’s office say Nguyen is one of many missing persons cases they are aware of, and positive identification of the remains will only come after they have been forensically examined.
