FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) — Fort Wayne’s newest park is now open.
The gates opened to Promenade Park late Friday afternoon. The park features a new events pavilion, an elevated walking trail, an amphitheater, a playground and more.
Visitors can play table tennis or cornhole, relax on a bench swing or sit by one of several fireplaces that will be turned on when the weather gets cooler.
Planners hope the new attraction will serve as a bridge between the city’s bustling downtown and a redeveloped riverfront.
“The momentum and excitement we’re experiencing in Fort Wayne is evident with the completion of Promenade Park,” Mayor Tom Henry said. “Tonight’s official opening of the park and a weekend full of unique activities are clear examples of a community that’s united and moving forward in a positive direction.”
Promenade Park is Phase One of a three-phase river development effort.
