Thieves swipe thousands of dollars in fireworks from vendor

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – Crooks made off with a holiday haul from a Fort Wayne fireworks shop during the busy run-up to Independence Day.

The owners of Freebies Fireworks, located off DuPont Road, told Fort Wayne’s NBC they showed up Tuesday morning to discover that their stock had been virtually cleaned out.

Only a few boxes of sparklers and repeaters remained. About $7,000 in merchandise was missing.

They spent the early part of the day scrambling to bring in more pyrotechnics for shoppers, turning to a warehouse supply to replenish the tables.

Tom Tracy said it’s not the first time one of his stores has been targeted. He said a police report has been filed and he’s hopeful the culprits will be caught.
