FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) — As people prepare to celebrate Independence Day Thursday, the Fort Wayne Fire Department is reminding them that fireworks can turn a joyful celebration into a painful memory when children and adults are injured.
A 2017 Indiana firework-related injury report shows 77 percent of all reported firework injuries happened between July 1-7, with nearly 40% happening on July 4.
The Fort Wayne Fire Department said safety is always the key to any activity and this includes fireworks. The department encourages people to enjoy fireworks at a professional event.
If you do purchase fireworks for private use, the department encourages people to use them responsibly and take the necessary safety precautions.
Fireworks hours for Fort Wayne are 5 pm until 2-hours after sunset for June 29 through July 3 and July 5 through July 9. July 4th fireworks can be lit between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and midnight.
