Arrest warrant issued for man who beat, killed roommate’s cats

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) — An arrest warrant has been issued for a man police say killed one of his roommate’s cats and injured another.

According to a probable cause document, Garan Galbreath called police in October of 2018, saying his roommate Andrew Gibbs, 27, had abused his animals.

Galbreath told police that Gibbs was drunk when he left home from work. When he returned, he could not find two of his cats, 2-month-old April and 4-month-old Mei.

Galbreath said Gibbs was passed out in his room, and found Mei lying down in Gibbs’ room with blood on her mouth, appearing to be injured. He asked Gibbs what happened, and he said he didn’t know.

Police then searched the residence to find April, and found her dead inside of a bag in a trash can near the home. Officials confirmed that April died of non-accidental blunt force trauma.

Mei was taken to a vet for treatment and has since recovered.

At the time of this report, an arrest warrant has been issued for Gibbs. Tune in Wednesday at 11 to hear what Galbreath has to say about the situation.
