Three Rivers Festival needing more volunteers for upcoming event

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – Fort Wayne’s biggest festival is just a few weeks away. Did you know the Three Rivers Festival is run mainly by volunteers? You could be part of it!

Three Rivers Festival Executive Director, Jack Hammer says, “It’s all volunteers.”

Volunteers are valued and also in need for the Three Rivers Festival, which starts July 12th.

“Right now, we have about 300 shifts to fill, and so that could be filled by 300 people or that could be filled by 100 people working multiple shifts,” Hammer says.

Earlier this month, we reported a shortage of around 700 shifts, so that has been cut more than half. One volunteer who also happened to be on her first day at the job is Corrie Taylor.

Three Rivers Festival Volunteer, Corrie Taylor says, “I just picked the office position because I do office work, and I was like, ‘Oh, this is a good opportunity for me to network in the community.”

She’s a student at Purdue Fort Wayne and says she has been at the festival around ten times. For her, volunteering is a way to accomplish multiple things.

“I would say do it so you can meet new people, network, you get a free t-shirt. It’s a big opportunity I think for even volunteering your time for a couple hours,” says Taylor.

Of the roughly 300 shifts available, there are some options if you’d like to help.

“Event hosts, people that help to work around the festival, to help make sure that questions are answered for people, making sure gates and areas are secured. We also need people at the volunteer sign up area,” says Hammer.

It’s an opportunity for groups, families, or people looking to meet others to join in and help out.

“From the very start, our board of directors are all volunteers. When it comes to setting up the Three Rivers Festival, all done by volunteers, and then throughout the entire time. From our parade ambassadors along the parade route to the people that help take this entire festival down after our last day on the 20th, it’s all volunteers,” says Hammer.
