Police asking for help ID’ing armed robbery suspect

GRABILL, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) — UPDATE: Police have identified and arrested the suspect.

Detectives said thanks to assistance from the public, they identified him as 20-year-old Gavin D. Heffelfinger. He was found in his home on Barley Knob Road in Grabill just before noon on Wednesday, a day after his photos were released.

He is facing a preliminary charge armed robbery.

The Allen County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help identifying an armed robbery suspect.

Police say the suspect robbed H. Souder & Son’s General Store in Grabill around 2:45 p.m. on June 19. They said he was armed with a knife and took an undisclosed amount of cash from the store.

He is described as being about 5’10”-6′ tall and has a slender build. A witness told police the suspect looks to be in his late teens or early 20’s, and has blonde hair and no facial hair.

The suspect fled on foot, and was wearing Nike Monarchs, a grey Kevin Harvick hoodie and a blue and white trucker hat.

Police ask that anyone with information that could help to identify the suspect to contact Detective Kelly at 260-449-7416.
