Fort Wayne man accused of killing person after road rage incident found not guilty

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – A jury found a Fort Wayne man accused of killing another man after a road rage incident not guilty.

In August of 2018, police said 28-year-old Brandon Cook and 60-year-old Orlando Fernandez were driving on US-30. Officers said high tempers flared and that both drivers pulled to the side of the road.

Police officials said Cook punched Fernandez four to five times before speeding off. Fernandez later died at a hospital from a heart attack.

Days later, police surrounded Junk Monkey’s Garage on Goshen Road. Officers were looking for Cook, however, the search turned out empty.

Police found out Cook ran away to Florida. Officers later arrested Cook and brought him back to Fort Wayne where he has served the last 10 months in jail.

The jury did find Cook guilty of one count of battery misdemeanor. Cook’s attorney said Cook could spend up to one year in jail.

Cook’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, June 25th at 8:30 A.M.
