Fort Wayne animal shelter rescues 72 dogs and 5 cats in Houston; several animals adopted by families in Summit City

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – A Fort Wayne animal shelter rescued several dogs and cats in Houston. Several people adopted the animals in Fort Wayne.

The Allen County SPCA drove to Houston, Texas to help rescue animals.

Shelters in the Houston area have been overflowing with dogs in need of adoption since Hurricane Harvey devastated the area.

The Allen County SPCA brought back 72 dogs and 5 cats. Officials said 46 of the animals were made available to families on Saturday at the Bob Rohrman Subaru on Coliseum Boulevard.

Officials said it took less than 4 hours for all, but one available dog to find their forever home.

“So I hope that people will heed the message of adopting from a local shelter because when you adopt an animal, you save two lives,” said Jessica Henry, Allen County SPCA Executive Director. “The life of the animal you’re taking home, and you make space for shelters like ours to go to shelters like theirs and save more lives. So adopt don’t shop is the mantra of all people working in animal rescue. And we need people to make animals into pets.”
