Huntington Police officer shoots armed robbery suspect during chase

HUNTINGTON, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – A Huntington Police officer who shot an armed robbery suspect is on administrative leave.

Saturday just before midnight, Huntington Police and the Sheriff’s Department responded to Save-on Liquor at 29 Parkmoor Drive to reports of an armed robbery.

While searching the area, a Huntington Police officer found the suspect, later identified as 34-year-old Anthony Wilburn, of Huntington.

Wilburn ran from the officer.

Once the officer caught up with him again, he fired a shot at the Wilburn, striking him.

Medics took Wilburn to a Fort Wayne hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

He was booked into the Huntington County Jail Sunday morning on robbery and burglary charges.

The Huntington County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the armed robbery, and the Indiana State Police is handling the officer-involved shooting portion of the case.

Police have not released the name of the officer who fired his service weapon, and he was placed on administrative leave per department policy.
