Former WKJG news director Dick Florea inducted into Indiana Journalism HOF

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) — Our congratulations to Dick Florea, former news director and pioneer broadcaster at WKJG-TV in Fort Wayne.

Over the weekend, Florea was inducted into the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame at a banquet in Indianapolis.

He was the only broadcaster inducted in the 2019 class.

Florea retired in 2001 from WKJG-TV, then NBC33.

Florea served as news director and host of a community affairs program called Editor’s Desk towards the end of his 35-year career at our station, which, by the way was Fort Wayne’s first TV station.

In the beginning of his career here, Florea served as news reporter and anchor during the days when everyone on staff did pretty much everything.

The commercials during newscasts were live!

His entire career spanned nearly 5 decades.

Florea was news director when Fort Wayne’s NBC evening anchor, Linda Jackson, began her career in The Fort more than 30 years ago who says she will forever be grateful to him for the opportunity and for being such an excellent boss and teacher when it came to news.
