American Red Cross facing ‘critical’ type O blood shortage

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – The American Red Cross is facing a critical shortage of type O blood, the blood group most needed by hospitals.

The agency, which handles most blood donations in northeast Indiana, said it has less than a two-day supply of blood available for emergency rooms.

Officials are asking eligible type O donors to make an appointment as soon as possible.

Those who donate blood or platelets through June 10 will receive a $5 Amazon.com Gift Card via email.
