Arp wards off challenge from within GOP

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – Incumbent City Councilman Jason Arp shrugged off a primary challenge to advance to the general election in November.

The Fourth District representative defeated Rachel Lott by a 61-to-39 percent tally.

Arp runs a proprietary investment firm in Fort Wayne and has been among the most fiscally conservative members of local government.

In an interview last week with Fort Wayne’s NBC reporter Jeff Neumeyer, he conceded that he has made some enemies along the way.

That tendency may have driven some support to Lott, who was endorsed by the Journal Gazette and by Allen County Sheriff David Gladieux.

Arp is convinced his “no” vote on a riverfront development income tax prompted supporters of that tax to recruit someone to challenge him in the primary.

Arp will face Democrat Patti Hays in the general election. Hays easily defeated Jorge Fernandez for their party’s nomination.
