Strong start not enough for TinCaps

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (FORT WAYNE’S NBC) – Before Sunday’s start against the Quad Cities, the TinCaps released changes to their injury report. Top Padres prospect and left-handed pitcher, Ryan Weathers, was placed on a 7-day Injured List. Fort Wayne started the next man up, Adrian Martinez, and he proved he was ready. Martinez gave up just two hits in five scoreless innings, striking out three.

The game took a turn in the seventh innings, when the River Bandits scored two runs. Enmanuel Valdez hit an RBI single, while Cesar Salazar added an RBI groundout. The TinCaps evened the score in the bottom of the eighth, as Agustin Ruiz smacked and RBI double to left field and Dwanya Williams-Sutton brought Ruiz in on a single.

As this game went into extra innings, the Quad Cities scored two in the top of the 11th to hold off the TinCaps. Fort Wayne suffers their fourth straight loss, dropping their Sunday game, 4-3. The Caps play Wisconsin Monday night on the road.
