Warrant issued, murder charge filed in barbershop shooting

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) — A warrant has been issued for a 34-year-old man in connection with the fatal shooting of a local barbershop owner.

Fort Wayne’s NBC previously reported that Michael LoVett Jr., 46, was shot several times on April 9 near the intersection of Lake and Anthony outside of his business, Legendary Barbershop.

On Monday, charges were filed against James L. Dodson Jr. in connection to the shooting.

Court documents say Dodson and LoVett began arguing while LoVett was cutting his hair. A witness was able to calm the argument, and Dodson then left the shop before the haircut was finished.

Dodson allegedly returned to the shop with another individual and shot LoVett before fleeing down Lake Avenue.

He faces charges of murder, criminal recklessness, and use of a firearm. At the time of this report, a warrant is out for his arrest.
