One in critical condition after shooting on city’s northeast side

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) — UPDATE: Police have identified the victim in Saturday’s shooting on St. Joe Center Road. 

Officers say the man is 19-year-old Sterling L. King of Fort Wayne. He was last listed in critical condition.

One person is in critical condition after a shooting on the city’s northeast side.

Calls came in around 10:30 Saturday evening on reports of a shooting in the 1600 block of Saint Joe Center Road.

Officers arrived and found a man standing near the strip mall, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound(s).

Police tell Fort Wayne’s NBC paramedics initially determined that the man was in serious condition and transported to the hospital.

He was later downgraded to critical condition.

Police say the only information they have is that the victim was involved in some sort of disturbance with an unknown number of people. They say the disturbance led to shots being fired and the victim to be struck, an unknown number of perpetrators fled in an unknown vehicle.

Police say they hope to interview the victim and hope to gather more information about the incident and suspect(s).

Police tell Fort Wayne’s NBC that detectives will interview witnesses, and say they and are hoping to retrieve surveillance footage from the several nearby businesses.
