Fort Wayne Water Filtration Plant offering free tours Thursday

Fort Wayne, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – The City of Fort Wayne and owners of a local coffee shop are teaming up Thursday, offering free tours of the Water Filtration Plant and a cup of coffee to take along.

The event is called “Enjoy.” Conjure Coffee, located just across the water from the plant will provide coffee for visitors. This is all part of Water Week, with the city also repairing and replacing aged water and sewer infrastructure. Wednesday, you can look at a couple parts of the water treatment process, such as second to last filtration part and the final UV treatment. According to the superintendent, there’s one part that sticks out to all visitors.

Water Filtration Plant Superintendent, Mike Gierscher says, “Over 1000 people have actually toured this facility, and what we receive feedback on is the magnitude of this operation and the beauty of the architecture that we have at this facility, just the size of some of our equipment and what goes into actually making the drinking water that everyone enjoys on a daily basis.”

There will also be a historian there to talk about the architecture of the building. It starts at 10 in the morning and goes until noon. There will be several tours starting every thirty minutes.
