Competitors enjoy a Fort Wayne moment at end of Big Ten Championship

INDIANAPOLIS (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – They were competitors in high school. On Saturday, they were on opposite sides once again.

But when the game was over, the two rivals from Fort Wayne were all smiles.

Bishop Luers High School graduate Austin Mack came out on the winning side this time. His Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the Northwestern Wildcats 45-24 in the Big Ten Championship at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Among the first to congratulate him: Northwestern backup quarterback Aidan Smith, who played across town at Carroll High School.

As the two shook hands, they grabbed a random photographer who was on the field and asked if he would take their photo together.

By chance, that photographer was from Fort Wayne’s NBC, and this is that photo.

Their meeting lasted mere seconds, then it was off to the locker room for Smith and into the celebration surrounding the trophy presentation for Mack.

But for that brief moment, a couple of rivals then and now created a memory to share for years to come.
