FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – An Allen County judge set a trial date for the man accused in a 2-year-old’s strangling death.
31-year-old Shane Patton, who was taken into custody earlier this month, appeared in court Wednesday for a trial setting hearing. He’s charged with two counts of felony neglect in the death of 2-year-old Jocelyn “JoJo” Belcher.
She was found dead in her crib back in January 2018.
The judge set Patton’s trial date as March 5, 2019, and his is bond remains at $30,000. The judge warned him not to flee if he does post bond.
The child’s body was found in her crib, wrapped tightly in a blanket. A coroner ruled her death a homicide due to neck compression, and a post-mortem physician found the child’s injuries consistent with a hand being placed over her mouth and neck.
The girl’s mother, Crystal Belcher, is also facing felony neglect charges and remains in custody after violating a no-contact order.
