Residents hold meeting, hope to end Frances Slocum housing plans

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) — A resident upset with the continuing struggle involving Slocum Pointe.

Neighbors held another community meeting, hoping to get their message across. They are still preparing to fight against Brightpoint, a non-profit that has plans to turn the former Frances Slocum Elementary School into low-income housing.

This was the first time residents have gathered since meeting with developers last week.

Disappointed in the results of last week’s meeting, community leaders said they were stepping up their efforts. Monday night, they prepared for another face-to-face meeting with developers, hoping to put an end to these plans.

These community members say they are grateful for the opportunity to speak with representatives from Parkview.

The next scheduled meeting will be on August 14th.
