Police detective in officer-involved shooting identified

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) — The Fort Wayne Police Department has released the identity of the officer who was involved in a shooting early Saturday morning.

Fort Wayne’s NBC previously reported that a man was shot in the 1500 block of Production Road just after 3 a.m. on Saturday, July 28.

Police say 28-year-old Anthony Lincoln walked up to the officer’s door and pulled up his shirt, revealing a gun in his waistband. The officer then fired a shot, hitting Lincoln. Lincoln was last listed in serious condition.

But it was later found by investigators that the weapon was a fake, but very realistic looking gun.

The FWPD has identified the officer as Larry L. Tague Jr.

"Why he did it, we don’t know. But clearly the officer was in fear of his life," FWPD spokesman Officer Michael Joyner says.

Detective Tague is a 22-year veteran who started on the police force in October of 1995. He was assigned to B-Shift Detective Bureau.

Police say that Detective Tague has been placed on paid administrative leave. No other comments on the officer was made.
